“…the older we get the more we realize what is truly important in life, and it’s not that next business deal. It’s our loved ones. It’s taking in and soaking up all the goodness around us and then sharing that goodness as we go about our day.”

A Gratitude Class

Wendy Schmitz teaches a class on gratitude. Why is a gratitude class needed? Ms. Schmitz answers, “Because we are living longer lives than any other group in history and how we live our lives affects our health, emotional well-being and the lives of those around us.”

Psychological research tells us the first step to becoming happier and more grateful is to make a conscious decision to be happy and grateful. This may take some time and practice.

Ms. Schmitz shares four steps used in her class to develop a happy, grateful mindset.

  1. Journal daily. Focus on gratitude and noting the little things that make your life easier in your journaling.
  2. Write down 3 things you are thankful for in your life twice a week or more.
  3. Write thank you letters to important people in your lives. Mail those letters!  What better gift could you give someone than to know that they made a difference in your life?
  4. Watch videos that share the joy of gratitude! Here’s a video Ms. Schmitz shares with her students:

A Grateful Heart

Dave Ramsey talks about a grateful heart in this short clip from  Thanksgiving 2016. He shares how to be grateful, content, and happy. “An attitude of gratitude” as Zig Zigler used to say. Enjoy!

“A grateful heart is a content one. And a content heart doesn’t compare.”  – Dave Ramsey

Gratitude in the Moment

“When you allow yourself to feel gratitude in the present moment, the spiritual dimension of your life begins to change. It opens up, it expands, and you just grow with it. If you want to change you state of being, start to be grateful.” – Oprah Winfrey

100 Reasons to Stop & Give Thanks

Jose Luis Caceres, an industrial engineer based in Madrid was struggling with a declining business. So he began a daily habit of sending himself emails at the close of each day.

“I would send myself an email every night with the things from that day that I should be thankful for, and I would read it the next day. Sometime later, I realized that it’s a very powerful form of psychological therapy,” Mr. Caceres said.

These efforts have resulted in the creation of a nonprofit: 100Thanks.com.

Gratitude, like faith, is a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it grows, and the more power you have to use it on your behalf. If you do not practice gratefulness, its benefaction will go unnoticed, and your capacity to draw on its gifts will be diminished. To be grateful is to find blessings in everything. This is the most powerful attitude to adopt, for there are blessings in everything.  ~Alan Cohen

Make a daily conscious choice to be Happy and Grateful!

“We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” -John F. Kennedy

A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles. Gratefulness tends to create contentment. Be Grateful. Be Content. Be Happy. And Be Thankful!
